Residents of Welwyn Garden City and nearby surrounding area are welcome to join our waiting list.
Our "Allotment Year" starts at the beginning of October. This is when we collect rental payments for the year ahead, but plots can be let at any time throughout year.
The annual rental for our plots is £11.04 per "pole" with a 50% discount for those members that have reached state retirement age. A pole is approximately 25 square metres (30 square yards) and our plots are typically five poles but vary from two to seven 7 poles.
In addition to the rental there is an annual subscription fee of £10 per member and £5 for any joint tenants that regularly work the plot. This fee is primarily used to ensure that each LAA member is also affiliated to the National Allotment Society which brings benefits in the form of insurance, guidance and support - see our Favourite websites.
Plots are regularly becoming available and waiting times are typically six months to a year before plots are allocated.

Allotments are good for the environment. Allotments are a great way of keeping fit and enjoying the fresh air.
LAA is a really sociable Association so come and meet some new people and make new friends. Allotments are a place to unwind, relax and take time out from a hectic life style. They can be an enjoyable family activity or an opportunity for reflective solitude!
Before adding applicants to our waiting list, we like to point out that there should be, on average, twice-weekly visits to your plot. This increases for watering in the summer.
Between March and October you can expect to spend around four hours per week working one of our average-sized plots (six hours for one of the larger plots). During the winter months, two to three hours per week should suffice. This is because the plot is required to be both productive and kept reasonably free from weeds, particularly during the summer months when grasses go to seed and encroach upon neighbours’ plots.
Also, it is expected that the whole plot be kept properly worked all year round (requiring visits in all weather conditions) but during the first three months of your tenancy, only 25% of the plot needs to be cultivated with crops.
If you are able to commit to the above undertaking, we will add you to our waiting list.
